Aaj bus karo - Pune Bus Day 2012

One thing about India every western visitor will instantly observe: the traffic! Indian inner-city roads are usually crowded and follow a logic that is not immediately revealed to the visitor's eye (and it's not really related to traffic rules). That's how it is...but not today! Whoever hit the road in Pune today, found those roads quite empty - comparatively.

The city is celebrating the first bus day, so everybody is requested to try out and take a bus today.
Pune is giving a good example by promoting its bus system and discouraging people from using their private vehicles. Many people responded to the call and took a bus, and even more people participated at and around bus stands across the city. Among them, our CFI volunteers! We distributed pamphlets that show good habits on the road, such as:

Don't drink and drive!
Don't spit on the road!
Obey the signals!
Follow speed limits!
...

Risky driving contributes to a risky traffic, something we don't want to see in India. For our children's sake, we should follow the rules and reflect if it's really necessary to take that car today. Maybe a bus would do.
Happy bus day!

Community children supported the activity as volunteers
